new autumn shedLike it or not, the summer is sadly close to coming to an end. The end of the season means that summer items such as garden furniture and toys, bikes and gardening tools need a dry and secure home for autumn and winter.

The versatile shed provides the ideal place to keep items safe over the winter months. Even if you have a lot to store, over time, a shed can work out cheaper than self-storage.

The coming August bank holiday could be the ideal time to get your new shed installed, as long as the weather holds out!

What shed to buy

For a long and happy life with your new shed, make sure you choose the right one from the start. For help selecting the right one for your garden, read our comprehensive guide to choosing a garden shed. If you can't find what you're looking for, perhaps a custom-built shed might work?

Installing your new shed

Wait for a spell of dry weather to install your new shed. Most sheds come flat packed, so if you're a shed building novice, read our guide to putting up a garden shed, or contact us to arrange installation.

Shed maintenance

When treated right, your shed should last for many years. Don't forget to add finishing touches and take steps to protect it from the weather.

Tips for using your shed for storage over winter

  • Make sure you choose a shed that is big enough to store all your furniture and tools (and that bulky items such as lawn mowers will fit through the doors).
  • Secure your shed with a lock and check that items in your shed will be protected by your home insurance.
  • After stormy weather, check your shed is intact and fix any tears or leaks as soon as possible.
