Money making gardenA money making garden? Really? As outdoor space becomes more and more valuable, it's no wonder that many people are looking at ways to make it more profitable. So we've put together a few ideas that may help you create a money making garden.

Sell your own produce

There's something very satisfying about growing your own produce and people often like the idea of buying produce that's independently grown. You can sell your produce at markets, car boots or even from your driveway!

Fruit and vegetables

Locally grown fruit, vegetables and herbs are always popular.

Jams and chutneys

Had a bounty of fruit? Why not turn your harvest into jams or chutneys to sell. If you are making jam or chutney to sell, you will need to meet food hygiene standards and Food Standards Agency labelling requirements.

Cut flowers

If you can bear to cut your flowers, you could sell them in bunches. Growing flowers doesn't take up too much space and your garden will look lovely in the process!

Seeds or cuttings

Sell your seeds or cuttings on to fellow gardeners.

Rent out your garden

If you're not particularly green fingered, you could consider renting out parts of your garden instead.

Allotment space

If you're lucky enough to have a larger garden, you could rent out a portion as an allotment. You’ll need to have good access (so you don’t have gardeners traipsing through your house!) and you may also need to draw up a simple contract. You can find more information on the National Allotment Society website.

A money making garden office

A timber shed or summerhouse could make very attractive office space for a homeworker who’s desperate to get out of their own house. An electrical supply and internet connection would be among the essentials and you may want to consider space for a composting toilet.

Rent out a camping pod

If you've got one of our fabulous camping pods, you could rent it out to glampers who’d rather have a roof over their head. Organisations like Airbnb are an ideal way of promoting your own special garden retreat.

Hold an open garden

If you have a passion for gardening and your own garden is beautifully tended then you may be interested in the National Garden Scheme. This fab charity helps talented gardeners open their gardens to the public. In some cases you may be able to charge a small entrance fee and you could also sell refreshments (or your howm grown fuit & veg) for extra money.

Rent out a car parking space

If you have a large front garden or driveway, you can earn additional money by renting out space for car parking. Sites like Just Park have more information.
