A good quality garden shed will give many years of secure garden storage. However, as we move into the depths of winter, it's worth remembering that your shed roof can easily get damaged by rough winter weather. Here’s how to make sure your shed roof is protected against winter storms.
Heavy rain
Rain can cause massive damage to both the structure of your shed and its contents. If heavy rain is forecast, be sure to check and fix any holes and tears in the roofing felt. If your felt is beyond repair, replace it as soon as possible or invest in a more durable roof material such as Firestone EPDM.
High winds
If you have trees near your garden shed make sure that you cut back any overhanging branches before windy weather arrives. This will prevent tree limbs brushing (or falling!) on the shed roof and potentially tearing the roof felt or breaking the fascias. Check the roof felt and fasten down any loose areas to stop it being ripped off by gusts of wind.
Snow
Snow can cause many problems for sheds: the weight can quickly cause damage to the roof or structure and it can also cause leaks when it melts. Remove any fallen snow from the roof as soon as you possibly can.
