This year all proceeds from our Christmas Fayre will go to Taunton charity Open Door.
Last year we donated over £600 to Stand Against Violence, and with a bigger and better event planned this year we hope to raise even more for Open Door.
Who are Open Door?
Open Door are a Taunton-based charity providing help to people without homes in the area. They open every week day providing a wide range of much-needed help and support to Taunton's homeless.
Thanks to their help, people without homes in Taunton are able to access hot meals, showers and laundry services. They also offer a full range of clothing, from socks and winter coats to suits for interviews. On average 20 people a day take advantage of meals and many take part in the activities they put on, including musical afternoons and arts and crafts sessions.
Open Door is often the first port of call for homeless people in Taunton, and through them they can gain access to other services and where possible, permanent accommodation.
Their work doesn't stop when homes are found. They also help out previously homeless people who have found permanent accommodation. People who have been allocated homes often have no possessions, so Open Door provide starter kits consisting of kitchen items, bedding and where possible furnishings like curtains.

If you would like to help out (you might even want to volunteer), there are many items they need. These change on a regular basis, but often include:
- Food
- Toiletries
- Towels
- Sleeping bags
- Washing power
Somerlap have been working with local schools to advertise that fact you're very welcome to bring any donations along to the Christmas Fayre. We will store them safely, before loading up one of our trucks and delivering all the donations to Open Door.
Come along to the 2017 Christmas Fayre
The fayre will take place on Saturday 9th December, 2017 from 10am – 3pm. Entry is free! There will be free parking available throughout the day as well as plenty of hot food.
