Rising fuel costs make people look for alternatives
Responding to a massive increase in domestic demand for logs, Somerlap Forest Products has now made them available for collection in “dumpy” bags thereby simplifying its service to customers.
Commenting on the new service, Retail Manager, Nigel Puddy said: “With the forecast of further increases in the cost of gas, electricity and oil, consumers are looking to reduce their dependency on conventional fuels. Over recent weeks we have seen orders for logs increase by over 60% and we see this trend continuing”.
Logs are a far more sustainable source of energy being carbon neutral and obtained from renewable sources. Somerlap has led the way in the use of alternative fuel in the shape of timber – its on-site kiln provides a heat treatment facility in the production of pallets for export and is fired by reclaimed scrap timber. Pallets damaged beyond repair and offcuts from production lines are passed through a chipping machine and the reduced-size pieces fed automatically into the kiln.
The Somerlap dumpy bag costs £58.50 inclusive of VAT and contains 1 cubic metre of logs. Customers will no longer need to have orders filled by hand and the bag will provide a convenient storage container helping keep the logs dry and free from contamination.
Kiln dried logs are also available by forward order only.
