Somerlap's Green Fingers win at Mark Vegetable and Flower Show
Somerlap scooped three First Prizes, one second, and two third prizes in the Mark Flower & Vegetable Show organised by the British Legion on 29 August 2009. The raised vegetable bed was originally introduced to the Somerlap site to show how to create raised beds and how effective they can be. Over time, it has become a productive vegetable garden which supplies many of the Somerlap staff with fresh vegetables.
Somerlap received the following awards:
First Prizes(3) Longest runner bean; any other vegetable; handicraft made from a kit
Second prize(1) Sanders top tray – collection of vegetables
Third prizes(2) Runner beans (6); onions (3) each over 8 ozs
The star of the Somerlap entries was a runner bean which measured a staggering 25 inches!!!
Somerlap staff would like to thank Macker (aka Tony Simmons) and Gerald Dally for their continued hard work in cultivating and maintaining the Somerlap Garden – well done chaps!
