Standard Pallet Design
Pallet thickness and timber dimension can be specified to meet any customer requirement dependent on the type and weight of product, the method and distance of travel and for how long the pallet is intended to last. Where entry is required into pallet in two directions only, two-way pallets will provide greater strength than four-way pallets. Special features, such as stencilling, branding and colouring for identification purposes, are also available.
As a general guide to pallet specification, Somerlap recommend the following timber thickness for carrying the following weight of product:
16mm boards – 750 kilos
18mm boards – 1000 kilos
25mm boards – 1500 kilos
The above specification is dependent upon overall pallet design and dimensions and as a consequence spacing between the bearers on 2-way pallets and blocks on 4-way pallets.
Chamfered base boards allow easy pallet truck access and chamfered pallet corners reduce the risk of snagging during transportation.
