I am now in my 35th year as Managing Director at Somerlap Forest Products. Quality, consistency, reliability and service have always been the company’s key focus points, together with a continued investment in machinery. I’m proud to be part of industry organisations which have been instrumental in my journey.
The staff at Somerlap are a dedicated team with lots of experience and a will to achieve the best. When things do not go well, we strive to address any issues as efficiently as possible. I have every confidence in them to take on whatever the next challenge may be, to sustain a bright future for us all.
I play golf and I like walking, gardening and reading.
I have been with the company from the very beginning and started my career in 1981 cutting logs in the sawmill at Ubley. Since then Somerlap has grown hugely moving on from sawmilling to pallet manufacture and then fencing production here at Mark and my role within the company has progressed with it. From cutting logs, to running the production I have enjoyed all aspects of what my job has entailed over the years and with the support of great staff have relished the success of what we have achieved.
Out of work I enjoy golf, football and holidays to Tenerife!
I have been working for Somerlap for almost 20 years now and have thoroughly enjoyed my time whilst working at the company. Over the years I have been able to develop a wealth of experience as part of my role as Retail Manager to help and advise customers for their purchase of fencing, sheds, gates and garden furniture. I am also responsible for maintaining Somerlap’s excellent Health and Safety standards and management of our various vehicles.
In a nutshell, no day is ever the same at Somerlap. I also love the relaxed, friendly culture and teamwork spirit. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, and watching live sport.
I have been with Somerlap since 1996. I am lucky to be involved in many aspects of the company and think the variation in roles and responsibilities is a large part of why I enjoy my job so much. I believe in Somerlap, the products and service we offer our customers, and feel proud to be part of the wonderful team that make it all happen.
Outside of the office, I have 2 main hobbies to keep me busy - glass engraving and animal portraits. Oh and I also own a 1978 airport fire engine!
I have worked at Somerlap since October 2015. I have moved around within the business. I began in production and I have now moved into a sales and marketing role. In-between assisting customers in the garden shop, I manage the website content and contribute to Somerlap’s social media. I constantly strive for creativity on the garden side of the business. The thing I love most about Somerlap is the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The interesting and varied work is a big bonus.
In my spare time, I like swimming, photography and travel.
I started working at Somerlap in 2006. Predominantly my role is on the fencing side of the business, though we all help each other out whenever needed. Working at Somerlap is never dull, no two days are ever the same and you are always doing new and different things. I value being part of the Somerlap team and love the variety that the job offers.
In my spare time, I enjoy crafting, mainly decoupage and knitting and love spending time with friends and family.
I have worked with Somerlap for nearly 7 years, my job role within the company is varied but my main duties are taking care of the pallet side of the business by entering pallet orders on to the system and producing the works orders for production. I also cover for the retail side of the business when necessary by helping to serve customers and answer any enquiries they might have. I like that my job is varied and challenging at times and I’m pleased to be part of a great team.
Outside of work, I enjoy walking in the Somerset countryside, watching the six nation’s rugby and I am a novice in crocheting.
