Somerlap staff cycle to workPedal power! The Somerlap green team (from left): Kelly Jones, Nigel puddy, Andy Bale and Sonia Haines.

When it comes to being green, Somerlap takes it pretty seriously. For the Somerlap staff, being green doesn’t end when the working day does, that’s because we have staff who cycle to work, walk, use an electric car and even bring a tractor! 15th August is National Cycle to Work Day but for staff members Kelly Jones, Andy Bale, and Sonia Haines, every day is cycle to work day.

Despite Somerlap's non-central location, Retail Manager Nigel Puddy simply steps out of his front door and walks to work each day – and you can't get much greener than that! However, the prize for the most unusual method of transport must go to 76 year old Terry Fisher, who uses his tractor for his daily commute to work.

Managing Director, Kevin Bond said; “Our site isn’t located near the centre of the village, but the staff have all found effective and in most cases, environmentally friendly ways of getting to work.” And Kevin is doing his part by driving an electric car, not just for his commute, but in everyday life.

Somerlap endeavour to bring green practices into all areas of the business – it's an important part of the company ethos. That’s why all timber used in the manufacture of Somerlap products is carefully selected at source from well managed, renewable woodlands or forest thinnings.
